Looking at routes for London to Cape Town from mid march. " lads on KTM adventures. packing light with great enthusiasm for a good old proper desert experience before the congo basin mud-fest. A little confused regards the best desert to freedom ratio.I really liked reading about the routes through algeria, libya, and niger. would love to check out the Tenere desert. Any suggestions as to how to get the best desert exposure with as few guides as possible?Any help is much appreciated.

IMO Route R2 and R10 in Mori (with a few other local Rs in between) will give you something to get your teeth into and make a satisfying desert crossing - but from mid March it is getting warm which means more heavy water.
