Looking for advice

hi new to site and new to motorcycle travelling. Myself and a mate plan to ride to morocco from fife, Scotland. We are not new to biking and have had a variety of bikes considering our age (23). I know this journey is said to be relatively easy but we have both bought and repaired Honda cb250's for this. We are doing this to a budget and it's not practical to take our sports bikes. We feel that it will be great although hard on a 250 and are looking for advice. Thanks

Welcome

Welcome bier

CB250s, no problem about being able to do it. All you will really lack is the grunt to carry lost gear without it effecting the bike too much and get moving at a faster pace when the roads allow. Get a comfy seat and break up the riding.

Have fun !

Much of Morocco, like most of Europe, is entirely suited to sport bikes: good roads, reasonable pavement, radar speed traps, etc. If you're looking for dirt tracks or back roads, you'll appreciate the lightweight bikes--but just like in Europe, you'll be cussing yourselves out when trying to make time on the main roads.

Either way: suit yourselves, not some imaginary image of how it's supposed to be.

Hope that helps.

Mark

Your biggest issues are comfort and navigation, any bike will do fine. I'm doing a trip myself on a smaller bike and on the few occasions where we do get overtaken we catch them up in the petrol station. 250s will be economical and that helps a lot. Give the bike a full service, check everything and prep with chain, sprockets, tyres, etc to make sure they're really ready and you'll do better on an old small bike than a modern sportster and be more comfortable too.
Be wary of main roads through Europe, Toll roads are everywhere and are very expensive.

Kingdom o Fife

Hi Chee,
I stay in Kirkcaldy and my biggest moan is the loss of the Rosyth ferry to Zebbrugge. My euro trips depart from Newcastle now. Have a great time on the CB's they will be fine. Enjoy.
Stewart.
