Libyan transit visa in Cairo or Amman?
Friends of mine talked their way into getting a 10 day Libyan transit visa about 6 weeks ago. They had to work very hard. Others have since been turned away without trying as hard from what I have read here and on blogs.
Any recent news? The ferries from Israel are very expensive with a landy! I am reading that tourist visas might become available again also: Tourst visas in Libya - are they coming back? - Lonely Planet travel forum Libya Tourist Visas Reopens - Libya Travel and Tours |

Tourist visas are now available for Libya, in exactly the same way as before (on collection at border or airport).
It remains a tourist-unfriendly environment, so travel wisely. Sam. |
Thanks Sam,
Are transit visas available - something where you just want to cross and not have any escorts etc? If not, what is the cheapest way to get any kind of visa and get to Tunisia from Egypt? I'm only interested in driving quickly across Libya - 3-4 days etc. I'm in Jordan and am trying to compare the costs v hassles of using a ferry from Israel (1500 Euros, plus two complete searches and scans of everything in the car) v crossing to Egypt, Libya, Tunisia etc. |
According to this temehu page
... the reopened visa will be granted only for tourists who intend to travel along the coast for the purpose of tourism.... so it's escorted coastal transits only, which makes sense I suppose. I'm told by Yak they are asking €300pp for a visa, but drop it significantly for a group. Don't know if this includes the escort fee too, and all the rest. Ch |
