Libya - Invitation and Guide!?!

Hi All,

We are traveling from the UK to Cape Town via Tunisia and Libya and I have the following questions that I hope someone can help with:

1. I am trying to organise our Libyan visa in London before we leave and understand that we need an invitation from a Libyan tour company. Can anyone recommend one?
2. I understand that we will need a guide to accompany us in our vehicle. Can anyone shed some light on how I go about arranging this?

Thanks,

Bruce

Try these guys...

This should answer your first question, it's the most reputable guide company I've found that comes with good feedback:

FESSANO TOURS - Tourism Services

Re: your second point, apparently (not 100% sure) they can supply a guide with own transport but this obviously costs more.

Let me know how you get on, as I'll be contacting them to arrange mine as soon as I have my departure date fixed.

Cheers

Thanks for that! I have emailed them and will post a reply on this thread and let you know how I get on. Their web site is quite detailed in terms of rates etc.

Thanks again,

Bruce

For your own sakes, don't use Arkno!

Cool Guide

Hi Bruce
I can recommend Sinbad tours, Welcome to Sindbad tourism services, they were very friendly and we had a great guide, but I understand if you are just going across the top to Egypt you no longer need a guide.
Bon voyage

Hi

Do you have any more insight into this? Is it from a credible source like someone who has done so recently?

Thanks

Check out: Sahara Overland ~ Libya visa information

It's all in there.

I will be using a guide for Libya around March 1st, if anyone would like to join to reduce the costs. The route is Tunisia to Egypt.
PM me if interested. I am on a motorbike.

Transit visa

Hi,
Why you don't use a transit visa to go to Egypt ? No mandatory guide in this case .

Exclamation give it time

If you are headed for South Africa, getting there is a major part of the experience.

PLEASE give it the time to go to the south of Libya - it is EXCEPTIONAL, and will be one of the highlights of the entire trip. Every time I hear of people going straight across the top I can't believe what they're missing. If it's a cash thing, delay departure by a month and work day and night to earn the difference - it's worth it!

Er, rant over! For your local operator, go with Fessano, you'll have absolutely no problems.

Sam.

Hi Sam / All,

I take your point and tend to agree. Can you recommend a few stops in the south of the country and how long you think we'd need?

I have emailed Fessano and am waiting for them to get back to me. Would they provide one guide for the entire trip or would we have a separate desert guide? Would we have to have both guides at once ?!

Thanks,

Bruce

I think I'll be in Libya around March 1st... but I'm going the other way! Anyone headed towards Tunisia from Egypt during that time? Perhaps we can co-ordinate a guide together.
