Question Libya/Chad; Libya/Niger

What is the current situation with regard to traversing the border from Libya in Chad or Niger?
I'm aware of the situation with regards to guides and some of the dangers etc but don't know anything really much about travelling to these areas.
Anybody been to either of these countries recently? just over the borders or further in?
A genuine query so require some substantial info.
Cheers

Hello desertfox,
It is not possible to go from Libya to Niger or to Chad.

In the North-east of Niger you can meet new tuareg rebellion or gspc groups!
Vorget to cross this borders now

Unhappy Libya/Chad; Libya/Niger, how about Alg/Niger?

Well, thats told me! okay, next question - background information required - any really good sources of background information in relation to 'past' travels in these 'dangerous' areas.
In an old Sahara book by Chris, there was mention of Reinhard Mazur and Gerbert van der Aa, and Klaus Daerr - do any of you know of where I can read further information about what these people encountered on their travels?

And, Algeria/Niger I assume this is pretty much out of bounds too?

If I were to go to Niger or Chad (minus my vehicle), would it be best if I flew out there and collected a guide and his car? I guess this would be safer?

Ta

If you need recent info about the north of Chad go to Lonely Planet Thorn tree, and look for postings of a certain radi.
For me it's more then two years ago since I last visited Niger and Libya. But I think the others are right: no chance crossing from Libya to Niger/Chad legally. Algeria-Niger is not a problem, I think.

Post Chad info

Hi desertfox,

if you want any specific info about Chad, feel free to ask - I live and work for the moment in N'Djamena so should be able to answer at least some - although some overlanding-specific questions I might not know anymore since I have not been following it as much anymore as I would want to...

Send an email (guess you can do that via here as well) rather than in this thread since I don't come here often enough...

cheers/jef
