How about taking a map and picking a road that goes though places you want to go? Don't worry too much about your route before your trip. If you are there you know better where you want to go and where you want to spend more time.

Cool Thank you onlyMark

and Rebaseonu - thing is, I am already "there", but need to show others our planned route, border crossings, possible hassles. Route maps of the Atlantic route are sorely lacking on the internet and where I am - in Marrakech - there are no shops to buy a map. i also think its really important to do your homework before going anywhere, otherwise you can miss out on some amazing stuff! But I totally agree its important to be open to anything that comes your way ...

So you want to go to a trip without map(s)?

From Western Sahara to Mauritania there is only one border crossing (at south) and basically only one road you are allowed to drive, so there are not many options. In Mauritania you can drive towards Nema and then south to cross to Mali (several options).

onlyMark already referred the routes and border crossing map:

Sahara Overland ~ routes map for crossing the Sahara

I'm not sure what info exactly are you looking for.

Try to get some maps (at least Michelin 741) and perhaps a Rough Guide to West Africa guidebook.

The Covent garden branch should have all the maps you need.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
