Libya - a depressing read
 

This is not strictly about travel in Libya and so it may get deleted or moved, although obviously travelers in any country don't move about and interact with the locals in a bubble.

I have no agenda behind my posting of this and certainly don't wish its prognosis to come true - indeed, having been there I hope for precisely the opposite. Anyone have any thoughts?

I would label that article as "Libya - a realistic read", but time will tell.
+ there is simply no point in being depressed about things over which you have no control.

The International Community (I love that term) owes some answers, at least about the legitimacy of regime change (even when it is deemed to be an "unintended consequence"), but I can't see that being provided anytime soon.

I agree wholeheartedly that travel without understanding of the local context serves little purpose in that it is a wasted opportunity to learn.
