Libia to Chad
This might be old news from May 2009 but I hadn't heard about it.
The Libians have opened up a route into Chad. No doubt not open to individuals but who knows in the future? YouTube - Surviving the Sahara

Sorry to say I would not get excited about this old truck route opening for us any time soon. Didnt watch it all but IMO it will only ever be for exceptional aid convoys coming down via Kufra/Matan to deal with Darfur refugees - and only while it is safe to do so.
One or two people I know did it 10-20 years ago before Libya tightened up but I think the vid is no more significant to overlanders than G Gallaway crossing from Mk to Algeria last year with a convoy bound for Gaza. All other trans Sahara routes except Mali Tanezrouft will be simpler/safer. Ch

Two weeks ago I asked my friend in Libya. He has travel agency.
Niger and Chad border are absolutely close.
