Leaving a bike in Dakhla; issues?

I have been having severe Cub problems; so have pulled into Dakhla for a few days to see if someone more technically minded than me can fix it.

If repair is not possible or financially feasible, can I just abondon the bike and continue by bus? I obviously have not started the carnet; so I would still get my deposit back on this, but what happens about the import/export bits of paper you get at the Moroccan border (the white and green bits?) Will these effect my carnet bond if I dont bring the bike back?

On the plus side; the weather in WS has improved a lot over the last couple of days, was quite warm last night just with a summer sleeping bag.

Oh, and anyone over landing to Dakhla, there are two petrol stations that are fresh out of sans plomb on the route from Layounne, so you need at least 300k in the tank. I only had 250k and ended up begging on the side of the road.

Thanks

Birdy

I believe the Moroccan authorities stamp in your passport, that you entered with a vehicle.
If so, you may need a document proving what you did with it(sold, etc.), when you exit the country...BUT I'm not 100% sure...check your passport for the mark.

Hi Birdy,
Sorry to hear you're having problems, i'm sure the guys in Dakhla will be able to cobble something together, i'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
If worst comes to worst, try to get as much official looking paper work as poss explaining that you dumped it (stamped by local police would be a bonus) I would guess the stamp in your passport could cause you a bit of grief if exiting maroc without the cub.
Good luck

Exit

Hi, don't give up on it yet. Sorry I can't help but if you have to leave it just think. It could be worse: You could have lost your passport too. Then you'd have to use a new passport with no, "entry with vehicle" showing. Wouldn't that be tough! Linzi.

Birdy you need to ask about for a Brit called Colin (who is some sort of liaison with the Maroc military, drives a LR and is always in town. He lives on the coast about 8Ks south of the junction with the main road to the border). Everyone seems to know him and he is extremely knowledgeable about where you can things fixed. An invaluable source of help and he may even put you up. Sorry I'm afraid I've lost his mobile number.

Good luck

Regarding dumping the bike, just go to the Customs with your white and green, explain the situation and they will take it and write it off against you. There is no moto stamp in your passport but you may be on the immigration database as having entered with a bike.

Your carnet will not be affected. Dont even mention it.

good luck

Chris is right, customs are no bother to dump it. Its not stamped on the passport but it is in their computer. They have one at the border and you will get grief, not to mention trouble the next time you enter Morocco. So if you have to dump it just go to customs and do it legally.

Alternative: Find a touri heading south who can take it and try to sell it/repair it in Mauri or further. No big problems about selling it in Nouakchott or Nouadhibou.

Hi Birdy
What is the problem with the Cub then?
Try and get it fixed or at least hope any one heading your way can bring you the required parts, try not to give up. and change plans just yet.
All the best
