Landsat imagery

Dear All,

Could anyone indicate the exact link where Landsat Satellite photos could be downloaded, in particular for the Western Desert of Egypt?

The Landsat website is quite tricky to navigate and it is not quite clear where to find the free downloads of the wanted areas...

Many thanks

Francesco

I used to try and track down, unravel and interpret the NASA stuff myself - like you say it was never easy.
Now, like most people, I am happy to settle with the easy to use and more intuitive colouring which Google Earth offer.

Hi Francesco,

The NASA MrSid website with Landsat 7 imagery still works:
https://zulu.ssc.nasa.gov/mrsid/

I'm not sure if any better resolution is available anywhere for free, if you find a source let me know. You can figure out which sheets you need on the above link (you will be mainly interested in N-35-20 and N-35-25)

Hello Andras

According to this NASA site Landsat 7 Facts the ground resolution is only 30m for Landsat 7 images. GoogleEarth increasingly offers 20cm resolution for its images (the finest resolution the American President now allows), and large tracts of Uweinat and Gilf Kebir are in 20cm resolution images. The images are good enough to see tyre tracks.

There is a posting by Ulrich in the Navigation section of the the HUBB site on how to use GoogleEarth images offline.

Yours aye,

Geoffrey

Hello Geoffrey,

Guess I was too lazy to read the fine print :) Indeed GE is the best available resource these days.
