$39.5m is the ransom asked by the splinter group Movement for Oneness and Jihad in West Africa (Jamat Tawhid Wal Jihad Fi Garbi Afriqqiya) for the Spanish kidnapped in Tindouf. Ransoms for company workers/NGOs are particularly high, though it may be as big an ask for independent travellers to pay $1m.
