Is Libya no-go?

Are the Libyans issuing visas?
Or is it no-go after all the issues in the region?

Am looking to travel in late September, so need to start thinking about groups for visas now...

Thx people.

We have just applied for ours. We got our invitation through a guy called Jamal in Arkno Tours www.arkno.com It will cost €100 pp for the invite. He will also supply a guide for about €60 a day if you take guide in your vehicle, or a lot more if he goes in his own vehicle. There is also transit costs to pay at the border
Additional to the invite, you need an Arabic translation of your details in your passport. The passport office in London has a rubber stamp that covers a full page in your passport and has NAME...... DOB....... Passport No........ all written in Arabic. They stamp it for free. Same for the passport office in Ireland. All you have to do then is find someone that reads and writes Arabic to translate all your particulars and write them in. I got mine done by the nice chap in the Egyptian embassy in Dublin. The others on my trip got an arabic friend to do it.
When you have the letter of invite sorted send an SAE with the invite number to the Libyan embassy and request application forms. You need one per person, but 2 photo's. Arkno will fax you a copy of the invite which you send with the applications. He will also have sent one to the embassy itself.
We left our applications in on the 8th July (2 days ago) and they said to come back on the 25th.
We plan to enter Libya on the 19th of August and spend 2 weeks there. You can follow our progrss via

www.jepps-overland.co.uk

Good luck

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
