is algeria to morroco border possible
 

hi there i am going to be crossing from algeiria into morroco is this possible as i can not see on the overlanding sahara handbook a legal border crossing into morroco from algeria if anyone can shine some light on this it would b much appriciated thanks

as far as i know, there is no possibility of legally crossing to M.

no legal or safe or recommended way to do it.
you'll need to get a visa in a big town and consider shipping from spain to algiers or go way, way south to Mauretania and beyond to come back up through Niger with guides in southern Algeria(?)

the only way open between Morocco and Algeria as for now is by air , no overland ...you have two possiblities either going through Spain by ship (or even France) or doing it south through Mauretania ....but you can still try to cross by land it is illegal but not impossible ( thousand of people do it everyday) , even the british journalist Michael Pallin with a whole convoy did it few months ago , he crossed from Morocco to Tindouf not even knowing that it was illegal LOL !!!!!!!!! nobody would arrest you for crossing , you can always claim that you have been lost LOL ...( another thing : this border is not mined unlike Western Sahara, but patroled...) Good luck ....

Actually they did not cross directly from Mk to Tindouf, though looking at the map in his book, 'Sahara', you might think so (it was some 4 years ago). The text also moves seemlessly from Mhamid to Tindouf next morning, but with not details in between

He and his crew flew back to Europe (as they did throughout the whole trip and do not deny), then back into Algiers and from there took the regular flight down to Tindouf.

If you look on p.83 of the book (hardback editiion) you will see an artistic composition, including his Air Algerie boarding pass to Tindouf, scattered among some foreign money and a postcard.

Once here, under the auspices of the Polisario they were able to travel through the Free Zone via Tfariti and Mejik down to Zouerate and the train. A bit of a PR coup for the Polisario I suppose, but not one which he enjoyed all that much, I recall.

There is a ferry from Ghazaouet in Algeria (not far from the Moroccan border) to Almeria (Spain); I've no idea how often it runs or what immigration controls etc are like in Ghazaouet. However, assuming you could get on that ferry, it should take you to Almeria in under 12 hours, then you simply ride down the Costa del Sol to Malaga (about 2 hours) and get the overnight ferry to Melilla.

Illegal crossing
 

If you enter Morroco illegally from Algeria with a véhicule, you'll have to go out illegally with it or you are in for some serious problem at customs

It is interesting that many people in Morocco think that the border at Oudja is open, but in fact it is closed.
When I was in Merzouga I spoke with a hotel owner and he was sure that the border is open (at Oudja, he said). But I believe much more this forum than other sources.
I also spoke with other people about the algerian border while in Morocco and nobody knew any exact information. They all said "the algerians started the conflict" I am quite sure that in Algeria they will say "the moroccans started the conflict".

Also, do you know a credible official source that confirms that the border is closed (embassies are not a credible official source)?

definitely that border is closed .
But for a really reasonable fee you can sail from Alger to Almeria (Spain) , and from the very same ferry terminal , go to Melilla (Spain ) in one and a half days. ITs really cheap , and gives you the chance to stock-up Euros in Melilla.

For a tourist it is not possible to enter from Mauritainia into Algeria.
Only from Mali, Niger, Tunisia.
