invitation for algeria

hi everyone

can anyone recommend a hotel (or even better a person) somewhere along the route tam-insalah-el oued that would be able to write me a letter of invitation for algeria? the algerian embassy here in switzerland is demanding this before they will issue me a visa.

ideally this person or hotel will have an email address to make contact easier, but i'll consider anything. i am prepared to book 1 or 2 nights of cheap accommodation for me and my girlfriend or pay a SMALL fee, if necessary.

any help greatly appreciated

thank you

paul

Hi there;

somewhere on this website is listed the name and contact information for two travel agents in Algeria. I have e-mailed both of them twice but have yet to receive a reply. If you have better luck than me, please let me know.

Thanks,

Peter

hi peter

i also tried both yesterday, before i posted the message. one replied, one didn't. the one that did, didn't reply to my follow-up question, if u get me....my question was in english, their reply was in german --> i figure they understand only french and german.

the one that replied (tarahist) wanted a minimum booking of 150 swiss francs (about 60 pounds i guess), hence my request for something cheap. 90 francs of that was for the invitation.

what is doubly frustrating is that swiss don't usually need an invitation at all. embassy seems to be hassling me cos i won't have my own vehicle. do you understand german? if so, check out www.sahara-info.ch it is a little more open to travellers without their own vehicle.

good luck

paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks for replying. Sometimes I wonder if all this hassle is worth it. There's plenty of other countries in that part of the world.

Good luck in your travels and thanks again,

Peter

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
