Inverter TV

Has anyone got any experience running a small TV off their car? I tried operating my TV-video (55w itb says) via my 150w-rated inverter powered by a chunky 80AH battery charged from a solar panel (which puts out 40w when the sun shines). The telly didnt like it - even with an oversize 20A fuse (correct 10A burns out instantly) in the electronic solar/battery regulator gadget (the TV turned on but flashed) or avoiding the regulatorand going direct from panel to battery to inverter to TV (didnt even turn on). The inverter makes all sorts of drastic bleeping noises and the fan goes balistic. Inverters do seem too good to be true. Does a modern TV have some sort of surge when you turn it on - do I realistically need a much higher-rated inverter? I don't want to run the TV off the car batteries and off course expect to have problems when there is not enough sun.

Chris,

Make sure the frequency of the Inverter is correct. I've got the same inverter and the frequency was set way out. Should be 50Hz and also check output voltage - mine was set to 191V AC, and had to set it to 230V AC. To alter these, open the inverter, there are two pots (variable resistors), one for the frequency, and one for the output voltage.

Hope this helps - it solved our problems.

Rgds, Dennis
