internet in Bilma
a dubious question perhaps...
is there an internet connection in Bilma. if so, is it reliable. would really like to do the camel trek from agadez but cannot afford to bo out of touch for that long thanks ------------------ Neddy the Great

Bilma post and telecoms office has a big satellite dish and a few phone connections as do a few houses in town. But you might be better off with your own kit (sat phone and PC).

I agree with the sat idea, but if it's out there at all it might be in Dirkou up the road - a much busier place.

Dirkou, about 40km to the north, is a much busier place than Bilma. But Bilma was the old colonial outpost, hence the telecoms office there. In 2001 Dirkou didn't have any phone lines while Bilma did, but that may have changed by now.
A word of warning, phones from Niger, esp Agadez/Bilma are very very expensive, perhaps another reason to go with your own kit. |
