Hi,

I am off to The Sahara in January and have worked out best insurance is with world nomads through Lonely Planet.

You could get car accident insurance but it seems veryyyyy expensive from Campbell Irvine in London.

Dave,
Do a forum search for insurance topics - theres plenty about..its just about who will provide you with the best cover for the area you are in with personal effects covered and a low excess, and good repatriation procedures if the worst happens.
for vehicle insurance, several insurance companies will give you 3rd party cover for Morocco, or you will have to buy some at the border as you enter - which is quite expensive.
likewise with the rest of West Africa you buy insurance as you go, for a block of days that will cover your time in that country
or if travelling further East, Mali,Burkina Faso, Ghana etc, get a 'Cart Brun' en route which will cover you for 10 countries - it covers the basic vehicle insurance required.
vehicle insurance in West Africa.
It is all a bit of a paperwork exercise as you will struggle to get anything resolved in the time you have there - its mainly to give check points and border guards something else to check !!!
cheers

I hope the book is clear - travel ins never comes to 'rescue' you in the Sahara - until you get a sick person to a town or unless you set something up in advance/are doing a Rally/pay large amounts to locals. Thats why solo is a risk.
Funnily enough I would also recom World Nomad - suspiciously cheap but ticked all the boxes.

World Wide Insure do various deals for Africa, however they seem to have increased their prices on last year when we used them.
I got a green card from my current insurers for Tunisia, fully comp. LR insurance, they cost a small fortune but the cover is for all declared modifications including roof tent, snorkel, roof rack etc, by cover I mean that they would pay out if something were damaged/stolen, a lot of them don't they charge more for mods. but don't actually cover them.
