I posted Martin's bike back from Djanet after he flew home with a broken leg :-(
it was much easier as airfreight (£100) than to travel with it as personal baggage. to do this, you need to get the customs officer on your side, but that was worth the effort and that does NOT mean bribe him! one difference is that the V5 goes with the bike and that means there is a risk of it getting lost so make sure you note the details as you'll need it for customs in the UK.

you also need to complete a "Declaration of Dangerous Goods" which states that you've made the bike safe for transit - fuel, oil, coolant, battery, tyres. fortunately not hydraulics! they didn't know about the Declaration in Djanet so Karim and I had to sort that out by fax/phone with Algiers.
