How bad is the N16 coast road towards Nador

We're thinking of taking this road as we need to get towards Nador, I've been to Morocco before so am happy to ignore/ride around/avoid people there but would be unhappy if i'm actually attacked/knocked off.

I'd like to try this route to see how it actually is plus I guess the scenery is very nice - mountains plus a costal route - and a bit of off road further along.

Any advice is appreciated, also has the area got better or worse in the last few years?

I last travelled along that road a couple of years ago (from El Jebha to Martil) and it was it a real mess being dramatically improved with EU money. It's a friendly area but progress was glacial with all the road works. By now it should all be finished--the Moroccans are really quite good at road building, given the challenges they face.

If you want a definite answer, ask in the 'highways and bridges' section for Morocco in Skyscraper City. I would appreciate an update if you find out or if you travel along it.

Thanks Tim, Also am I correct in thinking there are no updates to the Moroc Topo maps since 2007 with the exception of your 'northern missing routes' -

Unfortunately correct, Olaf was doing a doctorate. There's a pile of updates stacked up for when he picks up the torch again.

For the benefit of others reading this thread, the mini-update men8ifr refers to is in the Hidden Morocco thread. There's both a northern and a southern supplement.
