HEAVY DUTY SPOKES
Is it worth fitting heavy duty spokes on a new Africa Twin for a trip to Marocco. I will be off road but staying on well travelled pistes i.e. Tagounite/Merzouga.

Hi
I don't think you'll need to worry about fitting HD spokes. I travelled 2 up with luggage and hit some deep holes etc and had no problems with the wheels. Cheers Julio |

Thanks for that Julio, 2 more questions, what tyres did you fit and who insured the bike for the trip. I'm having problems with my current insurance, it won't give cover for countries outside the EU.

I went to Morrocco with an Africa Twin 3 months ago and although I had HD spokes fitted before I went I don't think the originals would have cause any problems. Just get them correctly tensioned and trued before you go. I used Michelin Desert tyres and they were brilliant off road but a bit hairy on the tarmac especially when it was wet and greasy. They are very comforting when you are driving over sharp and pointy rocks (something that is endless on Morroccan pistes). No punctures on the three Michelin Desert equipped bikes.
