GPS Navigation

Hi,

We're off to Morocco in early 2010 and I've downloaded a few interesting gpx tracks from Wikiloc and others.

Has anyone any idea how to convert these Tracks into Routes for my Garmin to follow. Mapsource won't do it, and the only way I can achieve a navigable route at the moment is to reverse the track in Mapsource, send it to my Garmin then do the trackback thing which directs me to the start of the route and along it.

This works but is a bit messy. Anyone any ideas.

Yep!
send me your files and I'll convert them for you

Thanks Bertrand,

I'm just at the planning stage at the moment and just trying to find out how this thing works.

I now understand I need to reduce the gpx file to 250 points then convert it to a gdb file to get a navigable route for my Garmin ( a etrex venture hc).

When we get nearer departure and I've sorted out our likely route, and which off road tracks I want, I may take you up on your offer if I've not sorted it myself.

Thanks again.

I disagree- There is no need to reduce your waypoints at all - doing so will reduce the accuracy of your route and is not necessary.
You can chose to do so of course.

there isnt much on Wikiloc, I downloaded a few bits but never put them into practice. what you need is the FREE vector map for morocco. Its linked off my website, download the overlays and you get full mapping on mapsource. simples. It worked a treat for us and was beeter than T4A. Full of routes, camping spots and fuel stations to.

Good luck.

Thanks to all for the replies.

I have Olaf's vector map which is great.

I've downloaded the route taken by the bikers.

There are 281 off road Morocco trails on Wikiloc, see below

I've Morocco Overland and Chris Scott has promised downloadable gpx files for all his routes in November.

So, I'm not short of resources, and I'm making progress on how to make my Garmin do the navigation.
