Smile 18 and 21 inch Desert tyres stash in Atar, mauretania

This may help a few people with planning their trips. After having traversed the desrt piste from Noudibhou to Atar in mauretania we found much to our surprise that an english chap on a 05 ktm adventure had uncovered a stash of used michelin desert tyres from the dakar rally. We bought our rear ones about 75% good for 8000 ouiyaguyas-how do you spell that!or the equivalent of 35 us dollars. great surprise since our current deserts are going to be treadless by the congo.I f any one would like to check out the trip in progress check out www.greatwayhome.com

The tyres are available from Adrar Photo, a shop on the right if heading out toward chiguetti. it has a red and yellow painted frontage and a small door.
The tyres are at the back and there were approxamitely 20 sets plus bib mousse to choose from- carefull your choise;some side walls have nicks.

GPS co-ords of the shop are
N 20 31.151
W 13 02.999

best of luck
mark

Brilliant Mark, thanks for the info. Do you think they do mail-order?

Hi,

Does anyone know if this stash of tyres is still in Atar?

Otherwise are there any other suggestions on where to pick up some decent knobblies in Morocco or Mauritania before the Dakar rally arrives in town?

cheers

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
