Martin Eugen Arker born May 18, 1953 in Berlin. Possible links to a Dragoman tour. A Dutch newspaper article stated he was traveling with a group of 11 people. Hope this helps.

Martin Eugen Arker had previously travelled with Dragoman in Asia and southern Africa but was not part of a Dragoman tour prior to his passing.

Our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.

Martin Eugen Arker

Good day,
The family lives in Karlsruhe.
I was a good friend of Martin Eugen Arker, we traveled together and lived in Southeast Asia for a while.

There was a documentary on Swedish television about Johan Gustafsson a year ago.
Now there is a new documentary made by Simon Stanford, a South African, 1 hour 18 minutes.
It gives co-captive McGown the chance to speak also.
Perhaps he also made a South African version focusing on McGown?
Dunno if it will be translated, but parts of it is in English.

The desert segments were recreated in Kalahari.
The dynamic between the three hostages is one focus of the documentary. They did not get along, and were barely on speaking terms, which may seem odd. But that is how it was. Dutchman Rilke did not wish to be a part of the documentary.

I have heard stories about how mr Arker apparently did not fancy being kidnapped so he would rather resist, which he did.
The tour he was on left shortly after, leaving a bit of a mess behind for mr Arker's relatives to clear up.

Program can only be seen in Sweden. Looks interesting, is there an alternative location available?
