Full list of costs for Aswan Ferry (heading South)

Hi,

We currently in Egypt and heading south to catch the ferry in Aswan (if we can ever get our car out of customs in Damietta!)

I'm about to start to process of negotiation with fixers, etc, and was wondering if anyone had a detailed list of costs they paid in Aswan on the way south

ie Cost of Barge, cost of ferry, cost of various carnet stamp admin, fee paid to fixer, etc?

Any info much appreciated!

Hi James and Anna,

These are the costs that you should pay (beware: if you go along with Mohammed Abouda you will most certainly have to pay more; Kamal is a better option):

car (normal 4x4): 2,012 LE
passenger: 283 LE
dep. tax: 40 LE
tasrih (permit for each! visit to the port): 10 LE
verification from traffic court: 5 LE
stamp before passport control: 2 LE
another stamp at last counter before entering ship: 4 LE
search of car by customs officer: should be free of charge (Moh'd Abouda took 20 LE from each car!)

tips / bribes to customs officer and port workers, also called "services": around 100 LE (Moh'd Abouda extorted 300 LE!!)

fixer: 30 US-Dollars (you might want to pay a little more if the service is exclusively for you and not for a group of several vehicles; Kamal drove me back and forth from hotel to port three times)

Greetings from Khartoum

Hi Achim,

Many thanks for the details! We're hoping to get our car on the cargo boat next Saturday so this will be very useful!

Thanks
