free visas west africa

Hello,

A friend of mine drove from cote d'ivoire to spain about 2 years ago, and got some visas for free at the french ambassy of cote d'ivoire, and the one from mali I guess (free visas: burkina, mali, mauritania, can't remember exactly!). I haven't heard of it anywhere again, does anyone knows if it's still possible? I'm french nationnality, maybe it matter , but not a clue!

I read that French nationals don't actually need visas to any of those countries, so that would explain the price. Grrr. Time to get ahold of a French passport.
