Frank Cole/Life Without Death
 

I just came across this forum. I thought it might be of interest to inform this board thatI produced a film that came out 2 years ago about my good friend Frank Cole's west-east crossing of the Sahara Desert. It's not a conventional travel documentary but you can find more info at www.necessaryillusions.ca/lwd.

In 2000 Frank returned for another Saharan crossing. He was killed in Oct. 2000, 70 kms east of Timbuctu, 13 kms from the village of Ber. He was accosted by bandits off the piste (presumably as he was camping for the night), tied up and bludgeoned. His camels and all his gear was stolen. His body was found several days after the fact. He had withdrawn a fair sum of money from the bank in Timbuktu and was an easy target. The bandits were never apprehended as far as I know.

Francis, I tried to check out the web-site, but my PC could not find the page. It sounds like a great story, but sadly ending in tragedy. I am interested in the story, having travelled to Taoudenni in the north of Mali, and around the Aire in Niger by camel.
