Hi Paul

We are in Tiznit, Morocco and have heard of rain in Rabat but no-where else!

There is nothing on any of the news channels here or in the newspapers - where are you getting your info from?

I have friends heading to Todra tomorrow so will post again if it's bad.

Sunny in Tiznit!!

Kate

The floods in the Todra were a week ago, see Thorn Tree Travel Forum - Lonely Planet

The Straits of Gibraltar have had very heavy rain the past few days with up to 120 litres per square meter over 2 hours in parts. Ceuta, Melilla, Gibraltar and La Linea were all flooded on Sunday evening/Monday morning.

Just watched the news. Ceuta has had 533 litres per square meter of rain since Saturday. In both Melilla and Ceuta the flooding has subsided and there's a big clean-up operation underway.

Eh

Rain falling in litres per square metre. Fantastic. I thought it was cats per square ironing board.

You learn something everyday

Apparently they thought about that, but they couldn't catch the women chasing the cats down the street with their ironing boards. We average 320 days sunshine a year, so we get a years worth of rain in the other 45 days, and they run out of cats pretty quickly. They thought about stair rods for a while, but they don't have carpets in Spain so nobody knew what stair rods were. Litres per square meter was the next best thing they could come up with.

Great job description though: Rainman wanted - average 45 days work per annum. Square meter bucket and stopwatch provided.

Mellila has been flooded again over the weekend. Bad weather isolates Melilla for a time on Sunday

It's nice and sunny in Rabat today. There seemed to be some flooding around Tangiers on Saturday.

By my reckoning 100 litres per sq metre is equivalent to 10cm (4 inches) of rain. So 533 litres is nearly 2 feet. That's a bit on the damp side.

Joe
