First time to the Sahara - Tunisia in June!
 

Hi - Does anyone know Tunisia and a suggested route. We have 15 days to explore the country in a (almost) expedition-kitted LR90. We plan to do an anti-clockwise circle, down the Algeria border south and back up on the coast.
Can anyone advise me about 3rd party insurance there. My auto-insurer (elephant.co.uk) do not cover Tunisia and they said I shoudl get 3rd party onthe border - it that correct and how much should I be paying for 15 days.
Also - am taking the girlf - what sort of clothes should she be wearing in town (especially inland).
Finally - can we bush camp all aroudn the country?
Any suggestions are more than welcome.

Far south of Nefta your route may not be as easy as it sounds as its all nasty small dunes (which are worse than big dunes). Route T2 in the book will give you a taster, and prob all dunes action you can bear as a first timer in June.
Buy insurance at the border - easily done - 2 quid a day max.
Re: clothes inland - you'll both want to be all covered up or you'll burn + you will earn you less contempt from locals. With desert day trips laid on for the 'costa' holidaymakers, rural Tunisians have seen it all I am sure
Deep south desert you can camp anywhere, north of the Touzeur road is much farmland and you may find it hard to get out of site/hassle range.

It will be much hotter than you think...
