ferry from Alicante to Oran

Hello

Did any one use the ferry from Alicante to Oran in the last few months?

I’m trying to find out about prices for 3 persons, a 4x4 and a motorcycle but I can’t get any info in the sites:

http://www.algerieferries.com/index.php

http://www.sncm.fr/index.php

We are eventually planning to cross in August. Should we book ahead or it’s like the ferries to Marrocos? (Arrive to the port and go on board with out previous booking)

Buy the way. How long is the crossing?

Thanks

Bernardo Feio

I've never tried Oran but as it happens I've just asked. For a car <2m H and <4.5 L

1-ALC-ORN 20/02/09 19H00 TASS-
2-ORN-ALC 26/02/09 18H00 DJAZ-
£568,60
There are about 3 sailings a month on both routes [ie: also from Mars] to Oran.

Prices are with an en-suite cabin for 2. Both ways it leaves in the evening and gets in early morning so there's a good chance you will get well clear of Oran before the sun sets. In winter there are about 6 a month, btw.

fyi Mars Oran was £916 (30 hours?), Mars Alg may be less, Mars Tunis will be less and Genoa Tunis is cheaper still.

With only 3 a month I would book ahead - especially in August when Alg workers from Europe go home (may cost more in summer).

Don't forget Ramadan falls in July/August this year so it's likely to fill up quickly!!!

Actually starts about 21st Aug I believe - not a great time to be devout and in the desert for the next few years...

Interesting Chris, hadn't checked the dates but was offered a contract in Algeria but told I'd have a month free from 'sometime' in July due to Ramadan ...

They've obviously got their dates muddled!

Does this also count for the normal routes to Maroc, which leave everyday?
Or is booking even in the summer not necessary?

Chris Scott 11 Feb 2009 20:56

From somewhere like Algeciras I would say, not necessary.

Thank you. Will there be more info about the crossing and customs in the new book in addition to sahara overland?

Chris Scott 12 Feb 2009 08:47

Yes, all that is in there (and on the internet too of course).

Hello Bernardo,

I also go to Algeria in July, we depart from Portugal, we are 2 persons in a Toyota Land Cruiser.

Try the Ferry Almeria-Ghazaouet, now they just shipping in Wednesday, but in summer, i think they shipping more times a week.
Almeria is more close to Portugal, and just 7:30h the crossing.

Nelson filipe.

I still can’t get any answers from the ferry companies that do the Almeria- Oram and Almeria – Alger crossings.

Did any one manage to get an email answer or it’s just me?

I’m trying to know the schedules (days and hours) in August and July but without luck…
…also looking for summer prices…

B regards from Portugal
