Hi Fellow Saharans, I am preparing Overlander Range Rover To go France, Spain,Morocco,and Mauritania and back (from uk) this is being done in Support of Breast Cancer Care, I am looking for another mixed crew (as is mine)to join, hopefully in JAN 2006 (feb latest)if not its 2007 when all sponsors found I will be able to assist with Fuel costs, Subject to Vetting and compatibility of course, (both ways) any Takers, I have Read the Book!!By Chris Scott, Excellent, I recomment, (Saharacrossing@aol.com)

I'm preparing LR 110 for trans-Africa trip, departing UK mid-December. There'll be 3 of us on board (all girls) and are looking to start in Morocco, heading into Mauritania, Mali, Chad, Niger, Libya (all depending on politics, famine, etc), then into Egypt (carnet costs depending) and down East side of Africa. A 10 month trip planned to get home to Cape Town, where I'm from.

Dave, you say you're looking for a mixed crew, but we'll be pretty prepared by then and are looking to join others along the way if itineraries suit. We don't have any fixed schedule and the 10 month timescale is flexible - it all depends on how things are going and if we like where we are. If not, we'll move on. Let me know if you're interested in meeting up.

If anyone else has tips/comments on proposed itinerary, I'd appreciate it.

I will be travelling to Gmabia from the 2nd January to the 24th January. I will ertainly be in Morocco by the 6th of Jan. Maybe we could meet up and drive part of the way down together, particularly Mauritania and maybe Western Sahara.

I will have Janet (wife) and my four daughters with me in a Land Rover Defender 110.

I will go with two presons to Maroc, Mauri, Mali in mid - end December, in Toyota 4runner. Actually looking for company for Mauri - Mali section, and afterwards for Mauri - Alger - Tunis as well.

I'm also prepping a 110 in Manchester and planning maroc / mauri / mali for either early Jan or April (or hopefully both). Myself and my girlfriend went Tun/Lib/Egypt and down the East side in 2002/3. Happy to swap info, feel free to mail.

I'm going Cairo to the Cape from Jan 06 till end of April so perhaps we can all meet up along the way. We'll be going down the East if we can get into Sudan.

Bit late, but hopefully useful.

Niger-Libya not presently possible (although a colleague trying in about 2 weeks with some very heavy-hitting Libyan support - I'll let the forum know if he succeeds).

So you are looking at a completely different route or going Niger-Algeria-Tunisia-Libya...

...oh, and that's going to be REALLY expensive (obligatory guides for Algeria and Libya).

Hello Sam, Not a problem,My route will be France. Spain, Morocco, Atlas mountains, then down to western Sahara, Turn Left! and up through Mauritania, I will stay clear of Niger, as I understand Bandits may take your vehicle,unless anyone know different? and Algeria pain in butt with guides, so maybe only mauritania,and back,Im only going by the BOOK! Sahara overland, so onpen to updates, Vehicle is a very well equiped overlander, Dave,

IMHO Niger's great and the threat of losing one's vehicle isn't that high particularly depending on where you are going. We came up from Ghana - Burkina Fasu - Niger - went as far north as Agadez then came back south and went round Lake Chad. There is a possibility of bandits further north but don't think they are that keen on Landrovers / Range Rovers, prefer Toyotas which as a Landrover owner suits me fine. Alot of its luck, we had a great time in Niger and got robbed three times in Chad.

Curious if you are still looking for travel companion(s).

I am a photographer and filmmaker from the US, experienced with backcountry hiking expeditions, yacht/boating trips and international travel.

I'm low maintenance, can cook up a pretty decent meal, and know my way around off-road vehicles (had a '76 LandCruiser FJ40 for several years). My French is admittedly a little rusty, but I can get by in that department too.

If you are all meeting up for a convoy would be good to meet up for at least a part. I will be travelling down from UK leaving Portsmouth on the 16th Dec for Bilbao, down through Spain, Marocco, Mauritania, Mali. I am then going up to Timbuktu and then out to the 3 day music festival in the desert 65km north west of Timbuktu on the 13/14/15th of Jan. After that I will be going back the same route. But could meet on the way down. I will be in a Landy 90 and billy no mates on me own so would be good for me to meet up with others for parts of the trip.

Okay I will be doing the Mauritanian Border around about 16th of Janaury 2006 - who else will be around between Nohadibou and Noukchott

I know I have spelt them wrong. I will be returning on that stretch on about the 16th of March.

However, on the way down I would appreciate a couple of companions in their own vehicles.

I'm hoping to leave southern France on 16th December for Morocco and southbound - not sure whether to go to Mali or Senegal as a final destination.

I want to be back in France by 7th January for work, so anyone heading north I'd also be interested!!

I would be keen to join a team heading that way, either here in France (I'm not far from Sete, ferry terminal - I'd go on the ferry solo if I don't find anyone) or further south, in Spain/Morocco, happy to share costs!

Experienced traveller, navigator, driver and will happily cook!

Have been reading the forums with much interest for many months now and have finally jumped on board. My friend and I are in the midst of my own trek from Spain to Sub-Saharan West Africa and would love to join up as passengers through the Sahara in late December or anytime in January. If any of you above are still looking for company, please let us know. We have previous experience in the Sahara (2003) and will contribute, of course, for fuel and supplies. We can cook, navigate, drive and are very flexible. Let us know... thanks!

we did the route in a pink suzuki sj413 a couple of years ago for the same cause. we managed to raise over £3000 which was far more than we expected, I think because it is a disease that has touched more people than you realise. The book of the trip can be seen and bought on plymouth-dakar.com. I am going back to the Gambia in April 2006 with 2 other vehicles to take some school supplies, but not sure if this hooks up with your itinery. The plan is for about 1200miles of piste driving. 2007 I may be interested in hooking up for a repeat breast cancer trip.

Hi moggy, (Andy) many thanks for message,interesting, Its such a big thing that many people raise money for this cause, but always worth while, I have postponed my trip until Sept 2006 onwards, for various reasons, but route is now decided which is France, Spain, Morocco, over Atlas, down through morocco to Mauritania, into mali and Timbukto, and back, thanks for any offers, I am looking for companions who will do the whole trip there and back, mostly for team and safety reasons, but woul not be opposed to anyone who might like totag along some of the way, Dave
