Egyptian desert from Lybia

Hi everybody
I'm trying to plan a travel to Egypt with my car and I need a lot of infos about that :
(I've read the "country info" on Sahara overland but I want to know if there are some new details) .
- What about Egypt/Lybian border crossing (on return) ?
- Crossing Lybia : Do I need a guide or policeman on the coastal road to go to Egypt (AND return) ?
- Do you think it is possible to visit Egyptian desert with only one 4wd (Land Rover) . I know that it's not possible for Gilf , but for the other places , I don't know : what are the most interesting places to visit in this desert ( I think I can stay about 2 weeks in Egypt and I already know the Nile valley ) ?
- Is a guide mandatory for this trip ?
- Is "the book" very useful for that ?
- Other important details ?
Any experience for a similar travel will be important for me
SO ,.... Thanks in advance for your replies .
