Libya Visa - Refusal

Hi all,

We are currently in Tunisia and have been contacted by our guide (fessano)in Libya and told that we have been refused a visa. We are traveling on South African passports and apparently in the last few days something has happened between SA and Libya. I have searched the news but nothing jumps out at me. They are now trying for a transit visa from Libya, but we are thinking that we should apply for a full visa on our British passports. We have had the translations done and are awaiting feedback from Fessano.

Anyone got any infor or advice on which course of action we should take? Should we try for both the transit and full visa from this end (Tunis) as well?

Hi Bruce

I've just been turned-down by Fessano too (they stated it as an issue with elections in South Africa, even though they're about a year from now).

I'll contact the Libyan embassy in SA to see if I can find out more, but would like to hear how you get on with the transit option.

That is such bad news! We have UK passports as well as SA and have managed to get them on that. Please let me know how it pans out. Hope to see you in Egypt or Sudan.

Glad you got the visa's in the end. I also have dual so will give the UK one a try.

Out of interest, I phoned the Libyan consulates in both London & South Africa today and both maintained that there was no problem issuing tourist visa's to South Africans.

You'll get through on your british no problem. Met Hadi today and meeting with him again tomorrow so will have a chat with him and see how your application is going.
Go into Tunisia on your British too. We used our SA passports and it was a nightmad\re. You have to buy visas at the border and they only iss a 7 day transit visa. We were in the country for 14 days and in spite of all officals ion Tunis saying that we were fine on these it still took us 4 hours to get out of Tunisia and cost an extra 10TD each. Use your british. we had no hassles getting onto Libya to all, very swift. All the best and keep in touch. Let us know when you are leaving.S\We'll be in Libya for another 11 days or so before heading into Egypt.
