Egypt without carnet?

Found a link to Wiki where I read that you dont need a Carnet de Passage to Egypt anymore. Has anyone tried to transit Egypt without one?

Lenny, I was in Egypt about 3 months ago and I definitely needed a carnet. Are you sure that Wiki is telling the truth on this? I'd be surprised if they would go from being the most expensive carnet country to not needing one at all.

You can go through without Carnet. But the cost is 500% the value of the vehicle as far as i know!!!!!! SO if its a new cruiser ouch!!

Good luck

hi all
I was in november in egypt and because I read this good wiki-news too before I asked around if there is an egyptian carnet on the border:
nobody knew about it!
but I did not ask the egyptian auto club, shouldn't they know at least?

I would not take a vehicle into Egypt without a CdP.

Having gone through lots of hassles in Egypt with a CdP, I can't imagine how one would clear customs without one. The first things customs officials ask for are your passport and triptic (CdP).

Avoid Cairo airport if you can. If you must fly into the region, fly into Jordan and cross the border into Egypt.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
