Eastern part of Libya
 

I plan going trough Great Sand Sea to Arkanu and Aweinat Djebels and coming back to Koufra via Mat'an Sarah ; any advice on this trip ? thank you

Find a reputable agency in Libya (Saro -info@saro-expedition.de), agree a realistic itinerary with them, find a good guide, take more than one vehicle, ensure your own vehicle and driving skills are "up to the job." Take Sat communications, plenty of water and fuel. Allow yourself plenty of time. Dont try and do too much in a short period of time. Good luck!

i drive same road in 2003 and i recall that leaving gahboup depresion took some time also
the sand sea part is good going with large
corridors between the dunes .
several rock art sites in arknu and uwinat are worth visiting .
its a spectuclar desert in general .
have a nice travell .

As I recall Saro were not so reputable, but it was years ago.

FJ do not offer escorted vehicle tours and I believe have largely given up in Libya (as a way of geting to Uweinat, etc) due to bureaucratic and access hassles (see http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb.../002309.html). You may find the same probs in the deep south
