camping before the mauritanian border in Western Sahara

Can anyone send me some GPS coordinates of possible camp site locations before reaching the mauri border?

Just pull off the road.
We camped about 5kms north of Guergerat on what must have been the old road, it dips behind some rocks on the left (heading south) so we were concealed.

There are also plenty of tracks that lead to the beach, windy but some of the beaches are out of view from the road.

You'll get a feeling for it.

Hi,

About 50 km north of Fort Guerguerat there is a nice track to the beach (N21 58.6 W-16 52.3).

Cheers,
José

Hej Andrew!

If you want overnight at "camping-style" conditions in Western Sahara choose Dakhla. I am pretty sure there are possibilities. If you want to make bivak with some company, there are always several campers at the sea-shore at Polisario Bay just outside the Dakhla. Otherwise consider crossing the Mauri border and travel 30 km south to Nouadhibou. There are at least two fence-closed camp sites with tap-water and WC.

Unfortunately I will not join your team this time, so good luck!

Danek

Two campsites in Dakhla - both fine - and on road into town so you can't miss them.

If you're set up for it though, bivouac in the wild is nicer...

Sam.

I agree with Jose. We camped at a spot very close to his: N21 58.878 W16 52.641. There is a track from the main road that leads out to the beach. Just be careful if you arrive at low tide as it can be hard to see how far the water comes up there.

cheers

Beware the tap water in Dakhla, it's salty. Guaranteed to trash your filters and taint your water for the rest of your trip.
We were lucky to have brought spare filters.

Dakhla's worth the detour for the camel brochettes!
