Discovery Channel

Hi there

The Discovery Channel is making six short films, or idents, to run between programmes and they want one of them to be about a desert explorer.

He or she would have to have travelled extensively across deserts, often solo and can be from anywhere except the UK or the US. They would need to be aged between 26-39 and be able to speak passionately about desert travel.

Do you think this sounds like you? Or anyone you know? If it does, there's £750 paid for taking part and whoever's up for it would be flown to North Africa to film for two days.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Why????

Why not from the UK?

Why 26-39??

Thanks

Chris

Discovery Channel

We are making six films and one of them already features someone from the UK. It's about getting a range of representatives from the Discovery territories. Age 26-39 because that's the audience age range they want to attract. Like attracts like...

He looks great. Can you verify his age though?

I am over 50. Can I still watch Discovery or should I gracefully retire to UK Travel Channel?

andyb43 22 Dec 2006 22:58

I think we should all watch UK Gold!

lol

Sam Rutherford 23 Dec 2006 04:13

Gold?

does that mean it's in colour?!

Haakonbj 23 Dec 2006 20:07

Hello Sam!
I will do it straight away.

I am 38, and I have been driving off road bikes in Europe, Asia and Latin America

Wish you a peacefull Christmas

Hi guys. Unfortunately not everybody has read the post carefully. I might also love the outer space, but this fact still doesn't qualify me as a space specialist.

And, unfortunately, it looks like too much has been revealed about the conditions. I would, in my humble subjective opinion, prefer to see suggestions about "that guy I met", or "a great friend of mine", than screaming loud "me me me is the one (who wishes to have fun and the 750 GBP)".

Wishing you a bunch of safe and joyful desert kilometres in 2007,
DS

Yeah!!

That is funny! I could claim to be non-UK but that's the only passport anyone will issue me, though I've never lived there!! I nominate Chris, who, though may be from the UK, seems to spend more time somewhere sandy.

And why not from the US?! While the US does have some extensive travellers, the UK and Oz and NZ and Can all seem to boast more. . .

?!

cheers

Graham

How about country’s that don’t want to be part of the UK? – I’m Welsh, does that count?

martyboy 27 Dec 2006 14:38

I second the nomination of Chris. To me age and country of origin etc unimportant, Content of the film is. Put someone in front of the camera that has knowlege and enthusiasm and a passion for desert travel.

AliBaba 27 Dec 2006 20:29

Well I’m 38 and have crossed a few deserts, most of them solo. Besides crossing Sahara twice (once alone in the summer) I have crossed the Namib desert, some of the Kalahari, Kaisut and various other smaller trips.

Huh?

Has anybody seen these 'films' inbetween programs? They are about 10 seconds orso. Why is everybody making such a fuss about it?

Cheers,

Noel

Noel,

"O sancta simplicitas!"

(As said Jan Huss, seeing an old woman adding a chip of wood to the stake at which he was being burned)

….apart from that I have genuine interest of the desert. Strange thing, I lived there three years as a kid an I always want to go back.
