Kiffa--->Tidjika

HI,

Does anybody knows the piste from Kiffa to Tidjika via Boumdeit ?
If so , please give me infos about place of interest along this route and also about the duration for the whole trip .
If it is possible , same question about the piste beetween Ayoun el atrous and Boumdeit via Tamchekkett .

Great route, great landscape!
This is one of my favorite routes in Mauritania.
In 2002 It took us 1.5 days in a Landrover 110.

We drove from Tidjika in the direction Kiffa. Most of the piste is rocky but 30 kilometers before Boumdeit you will cross the very nice "passe de Nega". At that location we found a great spot to camp in the dunes. After Boumdeit when driving to the south it is nice to see that everything becomes greener.

In my opinion the route was not that difficult but I guess driving the “passe the Nega” in the opposite direction is more difficult because you drive up-hill in that case.

This route is also described in "Mauretanie Au GPS", a book which I would recommend if you want to discover more of Mauritania.

Just return from Mauritania where I've done Tidjikja-Kiffa.
Great piste, very easy.

The Nega Pass is absolutely fantastic as well as a huge gorge some kms before the pass. Also there is a very interesting guelta with a crocodile (similar to the well-known Matmata guelta near Moudjeria).

In a week or so I'll have the waypoints assembled and a description as well.
I'll send them to you and to Chris Scott (maybe for a future edition of SO?).

The connection Boumdeit - Tamchekket - Ayoun is not so obvious. My original plan was to do this connection and not drive south to Kiffa. However, apparently there is no obvious piste from Boumdeit to Tamchekket. At the exit of Boumdeit I was following clear tracks heading SE, but somehow I've lost them in a dune field and could not find them again. Since time was short I gave up and headed south towards Kiffa. The piste should be there somewhere!

Just crossed from kiffa to Tidjikja via boumdeit. Took two days in a Unimog the top of the Negga pass is a fantastic place to camp;
At Tidjikja there was a fuel shortage, we had to get permits from the town mayors office to buy fuel, normal price 240 oog/L we had to argue over the quantity of fuel we required ,and got half what we asked for ,but of course you could buy as much as you liked on the blackmarket at 300 oog/L
