Crossing to Egypt without Carnet de Passage?

Hello Guys

Has anyone crossed into Egypt without a carnet de passage?

I read that Egyptians authority has it own carnet in case you don't have it.

Also does this applies for transit visas also?

Currently I am in Israel and any info regarding entering into Egypt will be great/

Best regards

C you on the road!

You have to have one, and you buy it in the coutry that issued your number plates. And if your ride has UK plates, it's 800% of it's value. Speak to RAC as they are the only body issuing carnets over here.

But if you did not trust one person who has already replied to your query, you probably won't trust this reply, either.

Don't forget to let us know how you did at the border :biggrin3:

Amusingly, when leaving Egypt through Nuweiba in May 2007, I happened across a Swiss chap in a Kenyan registered Peugeot 504. He had been working on some sort of VSO-like medical project in Kenya and was driving back to Switzerland at the end. He’d crossed Sudan and had been stopped the Egyptian border because – wait for it – his Kenyan Carnet didn’t cover Egypt. After 10 or so days in bureaucratic limbo, he eventually managed to negotiate with Egyptian Customs that if he was able get a letter of no objection from the Kenyan AA, they would let him in. A quick hunt on the internet turned up the logo and address of the Kenyan AA. He then constructed a fake letter of no objection from the Kenyan AA, complete with their letterhead, and emailed it to his girlfriend, who was luckily still in Kenya. She printed it out and faxed it to the Egyptians at the Sudan border, who could see it came from a Kenyan number. It worked!

Hi guys,

We have also heard that Egypt has its own carnet, but are trying to find out more about it. Apparently you can pay at the border about E2000 which you get back when you leave. (I don't know this for sure, I've just seen it online).

Alvar, how did you get on without a carnet?
We are about to get a carnet for our trip but Egypt makes it so much more expensive, we thought we'd try and find out some more info about this alternative option. Any info greatly appreciated!!

Cheers

Posting No. 3 on this thread looks interesting.

Maybe it's cheaper than a carnet from home.
