Convoy permits

Hi all

Just reading an article in LRM this month about vehicles in Morrocco and they came up with the fact of needing convoy permits for anything more than 4 vehicles travelling together

Anyone got any further info on this - am going to contact the embassy to confirm

IMHO the embassy is the last place to ask. Havent seen the feature but it depends if they mean inland Western Sahara off the Atlantic highway - eg the intereting corner south of Tan Tan. In the main part of Morocco I'm sure cyou can you where you like - and the convoy down to Mori is never less than 4 cars.
You can always try driving quite s p r e a d o u t

Also read the LRM article about convoy permits. I've been going into morocco for a few years now, in convoys of 2 or 3 vehicles & never been asked for such a thing. As I'm soon going back with 5 vehicles I was a bit worried. I've tried verious departments at the UK Moroccan embassy. Chris's right, they either didn't know, didn't care, or didn't want ot know! I've spoken to a few other people who have been in larger convoys & they had never heard of it either. Also interesting to read in the same article about CB permits - another unheard of thing. If I turn up anything, you'll be the first to know. In the meantime, the old principle of 'winging it' seems to work! Richard M

The plot thickens

Have found the person who actually organised this trip (i had a sneaky suspicion and was confirmed when we got to talk)

Basically what they did was inform the Moroccan Tourist Service in Rabat about their convoy and got some paperwork in return.

The CB permits took some 6 months to get so we'll fall back on the tired and trusted methods of hiding the CB but not to well just in case (I leave mine in full view normally, just storing the mike and Arial well away in the back)

He is going to get me the details of who to send info to so if it comes thru we will send off some info, if not then we'll drive as 2 sets of vehicles

Excellent Smithers!

I've spoken to loads of people who've been into maroc over the years in larger convoys & they had never been asked for a permit or had heard of them until the LRM article.

I guess the Moroccans do love their paperwork though! I hope it's not a case of such things never existed until someone asked for one. That would be slightly ironic!

Good luck with contacting Rabat, let us know how you get on! cheers. Richard M
