Chad to Ethiopia
 

We are now in Gambia and on our way to South Africa. Can anybody give us recent information about the current possibilities to drive from Chad to Ethiopia via Sudan.
We don't know how the terrorist attacks in the States have made travelling through this areas unsafe. Or if it's even possible to get visas for this countries.

Getting Sudanese visas is the biggest problem (esp for Brits, maybe not for you). Start trying now in various capitals, by Njamena you may get lucky.

Seems like travelling west is easier than east. Visa difficult in Chad but easier (I beleive) in Addis. That doesn't help you much I suppose. I think the problem is not so much terror in the US but bandits in the est of Chad that is making the officials nervous. I have heard of people being sent back from the Chad border (with Sudan) despite having visas. Heather Maxwell and co got through (see forum) with no trouble. Going west mind you.

We are going to try to get Sudan Visas in Addis. Maybe we'll see you on the road. (We are also from SA).

Dont go to Sudan, go through Congo instead - or at least check it out. We made it through in a lrover earlier this year, in the North to Arua Uganda from the CAR. Much more fun. John at Backpackers in Kampala will probabaly know if its OK to go through now - his email is in the LP.
