Talking Cash to someone in Layoune, Western Sahara. Suggestions/ideas

Bit of a long shot this, but ......

Need to get around $100US to someone living in Layoune, W.S. I'd be amazed if the person concerned has a bank account and very loath to just stick currency in an envelope!!

Timescale is less important. Confidence that the cash gets into the right hands, is!

Anybody going down that way ........ or perhaps know someone who will be passing through?

Mike

Hi Mike

I'm going to be traveling through Layounne about mid / end Dec

I'm sure there will be others traveling earlier than me, but if there are no other offers I'm prepared to help

Cheers

We found travelling through Africa that Western Union was a really effective way of getting cash through. Don't know whether there is an office in layoune but probably as in most african towns. No one needs a bank account, you just put the funds in, send them the reference details and they go and claim it at the other end.

Please find the Western Union agencies in Laayoune here:

Search for a Western Union Agent location

The Western Union service works very well, except if your recipient may be on some kind of "suspect" list.

Charges

Hi, for me using Western Union goes against the grain. I realize they need to make a profit, but check out their charges before agreeing to pay. Perhaps in light of the recent bank situation I shouldn't feel apologetic though. Linzi.

Thanks all for your replies. (Isn't this place just great!)

John, I'll PM you my email address, so we can explore things further.

TBH, hadn't thought of Western Union ........ but neither am I keen on contributing to their profits! A final backup if all else fails I guess.

Thanks everyone

Mike

western union is by far the best solution
delivering the money in person may be a far more complicated solution, at least from my experience
banks - don't even think of it
best

Not sure what the hang up is on Western Union charges - they offer a service, it works well, they charge for it. Its about five years since we used it but at the time, the charges seemed fine for the service. Maybe they have gone up dramatically??

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
