Hi,
I can't give you lots of info since I've never been in Sudan. BUT the sudanese emabassy in Switzerland tells me that Sudan does require a carnet and that in order to get the visa, every member of the crew has to make a 1000 CHF (660 euros) deposit that will be refunded upon return.

I was told there is no way around that if I want to get the visa before leaving...

Happy travel!

Hello!

I have been to Sudan, with a Carnet de Passage for our TLC. I am not sure if it could be done without.

We got our visa from the Embassy in Holland and it was NOT necessary to deposit any money. We only had to pay for the visa itself.

Good travels,

Jan.

Also not sure if it can be done without as we had one for our LR so we used it. However point is we got our visas in Ndjamena and we had to show the carnet - I had to go back to the campsite to get it before they would give us the visas. Didn't have to deposit any money.

we entered Sudan from Tchad with a carnet and the customs seemed to expect us to have one. On the other hand we have spent some time in Khartoum with a guy coming up from Ethiopia and he's driven from RSA without one. Here in Sudan, he just showed his registration papirs.

An other aspect:
About three ago weeks the TV-news brought a story about a epidemy raging through South of Sudan. Don't remember wether it was a virus or bactery that is causing the disease. But it basicly prevents your blood from clothing (no it is not the ebola thing, though it sounds a bit like it). Kids are dying from a noosebleeding.
I know Doctors without Borders is in the area but they can't do much. Treatement per patient is 1500 EURO's and the farmaceutical industry is not interested,... as usual :-((((((

If you consider going to the South of Sudan I would do some research about what is going on exactly.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
