Carnet for Libya - recent confirmation?

Hello Travellers,

I'm looking for recent feedback of travellers having crossed the libyan borders, preferably on a motorbike.

Although Lybia is listed as a country requiring it, has the carnet actually been required?

Also, how did you deal with the guide requirement on a mototbike (...)?

Thx!

Hello Philippe,

Was in Lybia in January 2005. Rules change al the time but generally you can say that you need an invitation from a Tourist agency, then you need a translated in Arab slip in your passport. With the invitation and the translation in you PP, you can apply for the visa. If all of that is ok, you can buy an insurance/carnet de passage with Libyan licence plates at the border of entry. It would be usefull to have an agent of the Tourist agency waiting for you on the border to assist you. All of these actions will have to be paid for obviously !
good luck
Noel

If I remember correctly about Euro 150,- for Insurance and Carnet of which Euro 30,- for the license plate which you will get back when you return the plate at departure.

Cheers,

Noel
