Morocco to Ghana

I'm looking for a way to cross the Sahara from Morocco to Ghana, but I don't own bike or car. Are there other possibilities? Flying seems pointless; ferries, trains and buses non-existent.

Anyone know of other ways of crossing?

I havent done it myself, but having met other travellers en route, I understand public transport should be fine for most of your route.

I dont believe that there are any Moroccan buses to the Mauritanian border, but most people catch a lift with a truck from Dakhla to Nouackchott. From there there should be either buses or bush taxis all the way south to Ghana.

Its a fairly straightforward route for those of us who don't have their own transport. No worries getting from Morocco to Ghana .. mix of bus/taxi/pick-up & you'll be fine

Hope to be taking a vehicle down to Abidjan later this year!

Eurolines buses go as far as Dhakla in Western Sahara. Try staying at the campsite there ( on main road as you enter the town, on the left just before police post) and see if there are any overlanders going south. If you got a lift to the border you could walk across if desperate - its only a couple of Kms but I'm sure someone will give you a ride - it was quite busy when we were there last month. After that there will be public transport all the way.

I am also looking to do this trip!! I won't have my own transport. How long would it take to get from Morocco to Ghana via public transport? Going basically non-stop (fast as possible)? Taking my time without staying in any one place for an extended time (more leisure)?

Tanger to Accra is approx 6000km. Some public transport eg Kayes to Bamako covers 600km in about 12 hours (ie 50kph), others not so quick (I have experience of Ghana). I have a planned route with 4WD for 13 days Tanger to Accra but with public transport (some routes may not always be daily) I would allow up to 20 or even 25 days.
