I stayed at Salma in April this year...they had hot water but also probably more mosquitos than anywhere else in Africa I've been. I wouldn't stay there again if there were any alternatives.

It was still open in August. Nothing special but OK and staff seemed pleasant. They can organise reasonable taxis for you if you don't want to tackle the Cairo traffic. Still lots of mosquitos though.
