Camel trekking in Niger

Has anyone been on a camel trek in Niger lately ? I'm looking for a reputable company that does this.

I can mail you some adresses or even e-mail-adresses from Agadez to get in contact.
Or are you looking rather for european tour operators? French? German? Swiss?

Ursula

I'm specifically interested in doing a camel trek into the Tenere and Air Mountains. If you have some good contacts in Agadez, that would be awesome.

And if you have any good European based tour operators to recommend, I'd love to hear about them as well. I live in London so either a French or UK based operation would make sense to me. Having said that, I do not speak French so, I'm hoping that won't be too much of a problem.

Thank you in advance.

I, too, am interested in finding out about camel safaris in the desert, sometime in the next wintertime. I would hope to do more than one week, if I can stand it. Can you also forward any outfitter information to me. please.

I met the guy who runs Tidenne Voyages in Agadez last yar (often used by the European operators) - they've been around for a while and seem reliable.
Tidenne Expeditions
BP 270 Agadez, Niger
tel: +227 440 568
fax: +227 440 578

I reckon camelling will be more rewarding along the edge of the Aïr mts than the actual Tenere which is days of nothing at a camel's pace.

I just got back from Agadez and the tenere by Motorcycle. I used Caravan Voyages for a trip round the Tenere. I can HIGHLY recomend them. the owner Mohamad Souleymane is not only a genuine sort of fellow but runs a throughly prof buisness including Camel treks. he has fax number (++227)44 04 59 due to bad lines dont expect to get through first try,
Gregg

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
