Burkina Faso
 

I am planning a trip in July to Burkina Faso on a BMW f800GS. Can anyone please suggest a route that is relatively safe as I may be travelling independently. I intend travelling across from Spain to either Algeria or Morocco. Many thanks

Hi Andre,

according to my personal experience from last december I would recommend you the Atlantic route due security situation in northern mali. Last year the Malian army was sending quite often travelers back to Algeria although they were allowed to cross the border into Mali.

Bottom line : you have much more chances to reach Burkina via atlantic route.

Of course the Algerian route is in my opinion far more exciting ...

I did the trip last May. From Nouakchott I went via Magta Lahar, then Kiffa and onto Ayoun el Altrous then down across the border into Mali near Nioro.
