Fuel in Western Sahara / RIM

Coming from Western Sahara, you can find fuel 80kms before the border in a place called Barbas, a hotel restaurant with gas station. Already in Rim, about 110kms after the border, you will find a gas station going out of Bou Lanouar towards Nouakchott. More south in the road you can easily find diesel not really in gas stations but in a kind of tents in the border of the road. Petrol is rare.

About the border cross as people answered you there's no problem at all for a 2wd car, lots of them pass there daily.

Do you have a GPS? If so, I can give you waypoints and even a track to pass the border.

unfortunately i don't have GPS. i guess its not hard since there is only one road heading south. based on luis reply i want to know if petrol is as much available as diesel. unfortunately i have a petrol car (which is also harder to sell) . btw; maybe a stupid question but what is rim (is it another name for mauritania or a province)?

There is not only one track heading south... but it is the one with more tire marks. I think the better would be to wait at Morocco border for another vehicule and follow it.

February 2006 I could not find petrol for my KTM since Barbas Hotel until my destination in the middle of the road to Nouakchott (i was going to Iouki)... At Bou Lanouar the gas station was out of petrol, I found it at the black market in the village but at a crazy price, 3 euros/litre as far as I remember. Another gas station about 100 kms south was out of service. Lots of diesel available at the 'border of the street vendors' but no petrol.

I don't know if there's gas stations from where the track to Iouki begins until Nouakchott. But I guess there isn't. So, the better is to take some jerricans that allow you to make 700 kms (to be in the safe side) from Barbas Hotel to Nouakchott... Or hope you can find petrol at Bou Lanouar, I couldn't...

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
