Bivouac near Erg Chegaga

We like to sleep in a locally run bivouac at the foot of the dunes Erg Chegaga between Mhamid and Foum Zguid. Can you tell me which bivouac you would recommend, the waypoint and an indication of the costs for meal and tent. Thanks, Marieke

we stayed at one of the first camps you come to on the piste leading in from Mhamid. There are perhaps 4 camps strung out at the base of the dunes and are about 3 or so kms apart from one another.

We just pitched up (24 December) and negotiated a price of about 20 euros per person per night although we supplied all our own food. We did not haggle hard - we were staying out in the desert most of the time so it wasn't a hassle to pay a bit for the couple of nights we stayed.. I have a photo which I can email as I don't know how to load pics onto the web site.

The camp was one of the nicer in the area - carpets on the ground, enclosed with about 10 berber tents/rooms and a large eating area which was lovely. The surrounding camps were cheaper but not quite as nice.

Hi,

just returned from Morocco. We had a wonderfull time in the desert.
At Erg Chegaga you'll find at least 6 bivouacs / accomodations. Most of the accomodations only want guests that are pre-booked by hotels in M'hamid/Zagora or Ouarzazate. Only one camp will welcome individual travelers. Waypoint N29°50.648 W006°12.179
This is the same location as were Richard had its Bivouac. We loved the vibe in the camp, very friendly people and above all the highest sanddunes nearby. A must go.

The itenary between M'hamid and Foum is lovely and worth a visit. The landscape shows a lot of variety. See the pictures. During our visit the wadi's/Oueds were green with flowering Rocket-lettuce. Camels loved it.
