BFG trac edge
 

Has anyone got any experience with BFG trac edge tyres in sand, I`m after something that can be used for a compramise in both sand and mud, I`m a bit comcerned that they maybe a bit to agresive for use in the sand, so possibly a set of A/Ts maybe a better compramise.

Not exactly 1st hand experience as I drive on Michelin XS, but a great deal of vehicles in the group were shod with BFG tyres, either TA or even MT, and did pretty well. IMHO what it comes down to is not the pattern but the ability to deflate the tyre for soft sand. BFG have a thick sidewall, thus can't be deflated too much or else they get very hot. Still, they survive moderate deflation, and for driving on stones are certainly a bonus.

Roman's spot on about the thick sidewall with BFG Tracedges. Ive been running on Tracedges for a good few years now and been all over the deserts with them. Although being tubeless, you'd think that would be a problem with them slipping on the rims when deflated, but i've never experienced it. With money no object I'd undoubtely go for BFG A/Ts, but as it is the Trac Edges seem to come a close second, plus with the thick side walls, i've ripped them to buggery on sharp stones and they've still held together.They've been used for playing in the mud at home too & i've never yet failed to get through a sticky section that mud terrains have been through first.Not being able to afford different tyres for different things, they seem about the best compromise. have fun out there. Thanks for the info lads, the thick side walls appeal to me especially as we will be carrying a bit of weight, I realise that they ar`nt going to be the perfect tyre but value for money and versitility the seem like a pretty good option.
